Juan Miguel Echevarria to Return to Competition Next Month in GermanyPublished by
Juan Miguel Echevarria Set to Compete For First Time Since July 2018By Adam Kopet Juan Miguel Echevarria has not jumped in competition since early July. In his return to action, he will begin his 2019 season in the same place he began his successful 2018 indoor campaign, on Feb. 2 in Karlsruhe, Germany, according to an IAAF preview. The 20-year-old Cuban long jumper demonstrated his talent in 2018, winning the IAAF World Indoor Championships and putting his name on the all-time outdoor list. Before his season ended early due to injury, Echevarria jumped a wind-legal 28-5.75 (8.68m), which remained the world lead, and a barely wind-aided 28-11.75 (8.83m). With it being a new season and Echevarria apparently over the injury that kept him from competing in the back half of the 2018 outdoor season, he will have his indoor focus on winning the IAAF World Indoor Tour. In addition to competing at the Indoor Meeting Karlsruhe, Echevarria is scheduled to compete Feb. 16 at the Birmingham Indoor Grand Prix.
